Monkeys

ALWAYS MONKEYING AROUND

We’re pretty sure Sealife Adventure is host to the cheekiest monkeys in Southend!

Our crab eating macaques arrived in 2018. They were due to be euthanised when a lab lost funding, but luckily, we were able to find them a new home, and now this troop is happier than ever in their new sanctuary. The majority of macaques here are female; in fact, we only have three males onsite, including our famous alpha, Jeff!

IT’S TIME TO TAKE ACTION!

In their past lives, our monkeys were treated awfully in an animal testing lab. Over-breeding practices have caused our females to have abnormally big bellies, and many of these animals have missing fingers and tails from the aggression that was encouraged by animal testing workers. If you look a little closer, you’ll also notice that all our macaques have tattoos on their tummies!

Approximately 300,000 animals suffer in the global cosmetic industry annually. We think it’s really important to do everything we can to stop these animals being harmed. One of the easiest ways you can do this is to avoid buying products that have been tested on creatures like these. Don’t forget to check your makeup, soaps, cleaning detergents and sun creams for the Leaping Bunny logo, which will tell you that no new animal tests were used while the products were being developed.
