Penguins up close
This is your chance to get up close and personal with our charismatic Humboldt penguins in a truly special encounter you won’t forget!
Upon arrival, you will meet one of our friendly, experienced keepers. They will take you to the penguin enclosure and guide you through a full health and safety briefing before your experience begins.
During your visit, you’ll learn all about our penguins’ fascinating behaviours, feeding routines and natural habitat. Our keeper will share expert insight into their personalities and happily answer any questions you have along the way.
The highlight of your experience is spending time at the enclosure as you watch the penguins in action and get a unique behind-the-scenes insight into how they are cared for day to day.
We want you to make the most of your visit, so feel free to take plenty of photos to capture these unforgettable moments!
As part of your experience, you’ll receive Sealife Adventure Day Entry, giving you the opportunity to explore and enjoy our Zooquarium before and after your booked experience.

- The experience will be held at 11:30am. Please arrive no later than 11.00am. You can arrive earlier to enjoy the aquarium before meeting the penguins.
- Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
- Closed toe shoes (trainers, boors, wellies) must be worn.
- No exposed skin below the waist. (No shorts or skirts, needs to be covered down to the shoes).
- All guests receive a Penguin experience certificate.
- Minimum guest age 8 years old.
- Minimum of 2 guests per booking.
Please note that the penguin enclosure is not wheelchair accessible, and participants must be able to stand. For safety reasons, it is not advisable to be seated at the height of the penguins. We also advise that pregnant women do not take part in this experience.
We want you to make the most out of this very unique experience and so take as many pictures as you’d like!
Penguin Experience FAQ's
How long is the experience?
Our Penguin Experience begins at 11:30am and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Please ensure you arrive by 11:00am, at least 30 minutes prior to the experience start time.
Is there a minimum age to take part?
Guests must be aged 8 or over to take part in the experience, please note guests under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
How many people can take part?
Our Penguin Experiences have a minimum of two guests per booking and a maximum of three guests.
Is there a dress code?
Closed toe shoes MUST be worn (trainers, boots, wellies) and guests cannot have any exposed skin below the waist. Trousers MUST cover the legs fully down to the shoes.
Can I take photos?
We want you to make the most of this unique experience so take as many photos as you like!
How close will I get to the animals?
Our Penguin Experiences take place in our penguin enclosure, there may be opportunity to hand feed fish to the penguins.
Is the experience wheelchair accessible?
Our penguin enclosure is not wheelchair accessible and participants must be able to stand. For safety reasons, it is not advisable to be seated at the height of the penguins.
Where do I check in when I arrive?
Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before your booking time and head to our reception desk and let our team know you have booked a Penguin Experience. Arriving later than your scheduled time will result in the feed going ahead without you.
Do Annual Pass holders get a discount?
Sealife Adventure and Adventure Island Annual Pass holders get 50% off all animal experiences! Book with this discount using the Annual Pass holder booking link on the experience page. Annual Pass holders can also book animal experiences as a gift for family and friends using their discount.
What will I be feeding the penguins?
You will be feeding them Sprat, which is a small fish.
Is the experience private or will it be shared with other guests?
Our Penguin Experiences are private bookings and you will not be joined by other guests. Please note the experience takes place in the penguin enclosure so can be viewed by guests.
Can I touch the penguins?
Whilst super cute, our penguins are still wild animals and we kindly ask guests not to touch them during the experience to avoid them confusing your fingers for a snack!
Can I feed the penguins by hand?
There may be opportunities to hand feed the penguins but it is not always guaranteed.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Our penguins need feeding no matter the weather!

Will I get to ask the keeper questions during the experience?
All of our keepers are extremely knowledgeable and are more than happy to answer any questions you have.
Will I get a certificate after the experience?
All guests will receive a souvenir certificate after completing the experience.
